Course overview
The BA AMD Fine Art programme at CAA offers a rigorous and comprehensive exploration of Fine Art practice, designed to equip students with the critical, technical, and professional skills required for a successful career in the creative industries.
The curriculum integrates a diverse range of artistic practices, including drawing, painting, photography, mixed media, installation, sculpture, digital media, and printmaking. These disciplines are approached through both theoretical and practical frameworks, ensuring a deep understanding of their historical, cultural, and technical contexts. Central to the program is the development of a personal artistic voice, supported by specialist modules in studio practice and site-specific art.
Throughout the course, students critically engage with art history and theory, focusing on significant developments in late 20th-century art and contemporary theoretical debates. These contextual studies encourage analytical thinking and a nuanced understanding of how artistic practices intersect with broader cultural and social issues. The program also emphasizes the critical reflection and articulation of ideas, enabling students to situate their work within the evolving landscape of contemporary art.
Professional practice is a cornerstone of the course, with modules dedicated to curatorial methods, exhibition design, and project management. Students gain hands-on experience in curating and participating in exhibitions, from conceptualization to execution, both within the institution and in external venues. These experiences are designed to bridge the gap between academic study and professional practice, preparing students for real-world challenges in the art industry.
The program also incorporates entrepreneurial and business-focused training, equipping students with skills in marketing, fundraising, and the organization of art events. Emphasis is placed on the development of independent, sustainable artistic practices, including portfolio preparation and the cultivation of a professional online presence.
The culmination of the program is the annual graduation exhibition, an opportunity for students to present a cohesive body of work that reflects their personal artistic research and professional preparation. This final showcase represents the integration of theoretical knowledge, technical skill, and creative vision, serving as a platform for students to transition into the professional art world or further academic study.
