The BA AMD in Graphic Design at CAA provides a rigorous and intellectually stimulating framework for the development of a distinctive personal style and visual language.

Central to the program is the creation of a professional portfolio that exemplifies both conceptual depth and technical proficiency, equipping students to navigate and contribute meaningfully to the dynamic field of graphic design.

This degree program is specifically designed for those aspiring to careers in a broad spectrum of Creative Industries, including but not limited to editorial design and publishing, branding and agency work, art direction and advertising, web design and UI/UX, or establishing an independent design practice. The curriculum also supports students pursuing advanced academic inquiry and research within the field.

The course fosters transferable skills that enable graduates to pursue opportunities in adjacent sectors such as Arts Administration, Education, Media, and Multimedia Practice. Emphasizing both theoretical and practical dimensions, it cultivates a creative and professional learning environment where the knowledge acquired contributes directly to career advancement and innovation in Graphic Design.

What you'll study

The academic structure includes an exploration of advanced typography and projects focused on corporate identity and advertising design for both print and digital media. Engagement with live competition briefs forms an integral part of the curriculum, providing students with opportunities to address real-world design challenges. The program culminates in a negotiated final major project and public exhibition, allowing students to synthesize their learning into a cohesive body of work.

The overarching aim of this course is to develop students’ conceptual, cultural, creative, and practical competencies. By fostering adaptability, interdisciplinary knowledge, and intrinsic motivation, the program equips graduates for advanced study and professional practice within the complex and evolving landscape of Graphic Design.

Facilities

Our specialist facilities include Stop Motion Studios with Dragonframe capture software and motion control rigs, Canon DSLRs and professional camera stands, and stages pre-rigged with grips, stands and lights that are controllable via Dragonframe.

The main design studio features individual workstations, traditional light boxes, Wacom Cintiq’s & Wacom tablets, line testers & batch scanners and PC / iMac computers throughout.

Our dedicated computer Lab has both PC and Mac Workstations with dual monitors and either a Wacom Cintiq or a Wacom Tablet on each device. All computers have the full Adobe Creative Suite as well as Toon Boom Harmony, Autodesk Maya & Davinci Resolve, while there’s also sound and editing equipment and a dedicated render farm on campus.
